You may often see mention in survey articles about what is considered a good demographic. The basic rule is a somewhat unfair one. The big corporations value different peoples opinions differently. They simply care more about certain types. The good news is that they aren't as rare or exclusive as you would probably think. In fact, chances are that you'll fit into at least one of the major groups.
The first group would be mothers. In fact, that is who surveys are often aimed toward. Stay-at-Home moms make up a big chunk of the survey demographic and they are usually the best people to test a new product. Specifically, mothers between the age of 20 and 35 fall into the hot zone. They are the young crowd with good purchasing power and they'll be buying for the children's market. If you fall into this group you're in luck. They have a good steady supply of surveys with many invitations for product testing and conferences. They are also usually married to a man age 18-35. This is another hot group that makes up the battleground consumers. Corporations are always looking for more opinions in this range.
Another big group is anyone in a technological field. Engineers and technical support workers are always being called upon to give professional opinions to the new corporations that are trying to make the next advance in communications. These surveys usually pay quite well too.
Finally, you have the hodgepodge group of retirees and teenagers. They usually aren't in much demand, but there are several times when clients really want their opinions. In fact, there is almost always a demand for someone from each of the major groups to chime in about the product. Information is power in marketing and they are always looking for more power. The other bonus is that these fields aren't as crowded as some of the “in” groups so you usually don't have as much of a rush to get into offer.
As you can see, there really isn't a perfect demographic for surveys. Just about anyone can be in demand for the right company. You will probably have better luck if you're a younger parent though. They always want to capture lifetime consumers
